Solemn Profession - A life dedicated only to God

Yesterday Br. Morey made his solemn profession in the crypt of the future church. The Abbot from Fontgombault and the Bishop were both present. I was able to spend some time with Br. Morey's wonderful family who flew out from the west coast for the event - though we don't spend much time with the monks (after all they are cloistered) you can really tell alot about them when you meet their families. Enjoy the pictures ... though pictures really cannot capture how totally amazing and special it was:

When I stayed in Clear Creek for a few days in January 2002, I was just poised to press the shutter button on the camera to capture a picture of all the monks walking in a straight line to their lunch, when the guest master monk who was behind me, roared at me not to take photos of monks.
I don’t know how you get away with it…

Actually its funny you mention it - I was not sure if I could take pictures and there was no one around to ask (I just did it). So I set up my camera in the very back of the church (as un-obvious as possible) on a tripod and zoomed way in toward the altar. The lighting was very low so I used the timer to actually take the pictures so I would not bump the camera at all. I did not get any grief about it (though I was prepared for it).

Thank you so much for these photos. Brother Joshua Morey is one of the closest friends I made after my conversion in 1996, and he lived with me for a time. Not only is he a man of integrity, he is one of the very few people in my life with whom I can discuss important matters without a lot of preparatory work -- that is, he knows exactly where I'm coming from. I certainly do miss him, but as Our lord said to Martha of her sister Mary, he has chosen the better thing, and it will not be taken away from him.

I am glad that you enjoyed the pictures Michael. I really enjoyed meeting Br. Morey's family - they are really special people. It is totally amazing to me what talented, awe-inspiring men God has chosen to be here in CC as prayer warriors for his church. Speaking of prayer warriors here is a desktop image I created you might enjoy.

I managed to take photos of them in the chapel by standing BEHIND the glass wall which separates the chapel from the vestibule. And of course, I didn't use a flash, so one knew I was taking photos.

There is an excellent short documentary made about Clear Creek by a student. It's called 'Ecce Fiat'.
